  1. The fire destroyed thousands of homes but didn’t break the spirit of the residents. The outpouring of aid was from all parts of Chile was amazing. We live on a main road entering the area and watched truck after truck filled with household goods, clothes and food pass by. Everywhere you went there were donation boxes including the school where we teach.

Soon I plan to go into the area to photograph the rebuilding progress.

    1. The aid actually started pouring in before all the fires were extinguished. Chileans are accustomed to disasters and are always willing to help others because they know it’s only a matter of time before they are in the middle of one. Here the disaster could be an earthquake (it has to be at least 8.x before it is considered big), fire, tsunami or volcanic eruption. Such is the life in one of the most seismically active countries in the world.
